In recent years clients have become all too aware that markets can fall as well as rise and that the downside can be much larger than you think. Wealth preservation has become far more important than trying to achieve high growth and being exposed to the potential losses that inevitably go with that strategy. When markets are performing well it is perhaps easy to accept fund management charges as they represent a small amount of the growth achieved in any period. We control the asset allocation with a view to providing steady returns in the medium term, whilst reducing volatility and minimising losses. Over the 3 years to 26 May 2011 our lowest risk portfolio has risen by 19.89% with its lowest point being a loss of 7%. Our highest risk portfolio has risen by 12.9% with its lowest point being -26.34%. By comparison the FTSE 100 has made 8.2% with the low point of -40.11% and the MSCI AC World Index showing -5.93% over the 3 years and a low point of -48.42%.
